It is a part of the Extreme Makeover Home Edition tradition to find projects besides the build which will help the community.  Those projects are associated with causes and projects the families themselves contribute to or services they need themselves.  Tucson is no exception in this process

Lizzie Bell was born with a rare blood condition, Diamond-Blackfan Anemia, which is characterized by a failure of the bone marrow to produce red blood cells. Less than 700 kids in the world are stricken with this disease.  She has to have two blood transfusions a month.

Two Blood Drives Being Held Today and Saturday January 31, 2009

Two blood drives are being held in honor of Lizzie Bell and the John P. Bell Foundation: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. today and Saturday at Pima Community College East Campus, 8181 E. Irvington Road.

I’ve have heard through the grapevine that 750 pints of blood has been the highest amount given at any previous Extreme Makeover.  I’ve also heard the Volunteer staff would like to see at least 1000 pints of blood contributed this week in Lizzy’s name.

This is a great way to contribute as a volunteer.  Head over to the Pima Community College East Campus at 8181 E. Irvington Rd. and be one of 1000 pints of blood for this worthy cause.

Pima CC East events calendar online says the Saturday blood drive is from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Hopefully the longer hours will help people be able to make it out there and donate.
