A Hole in the Sidewalk

I was waiting outside our office for a client to arrive after their full work day. Walking back and forth enjoying one of the first cool evenings of fall as it arrives here in Tucson, AZ. I looked down just in time to see an ant quickly going about its business and running right under my shoe as it came down. I couldn’t stop, my foot hit the pavement and I figured I wouldn’t even be able to see what remained either on the sole of my shoe or on the sidewalk.
I wasn’t prepared for what I saw, the ant never missing a step was continuing on his way just as fast as before. I stopped dead in my tracks, then I spotted the hole in the sidewalk, I have stepped over that hole many times before and never paid it any attention. It was like a scene out of a movie, the Indiana Jones Ant running full out is about to be crushed by some dark force that is descending from above only to fall in a hole at the last second as the darkness falls then abates as quickly as it came. He fell, it got dark, then light again and he went on his way never realizing that falling into that hole and going through that moment of darkness had saved his life.
I wonder how many times, I’ve fallen in a hole and cursed the darkness then when it passed I’ve gone on about my life never realizing that sometimes it is the holes in our lives that save them. Please enjoy the journey. . .
