Have you ever had a plant you forgot to water and one day you looked up and there it was with it’s leaves drooping close to the stems and the flowers are wilted, practically falling off the plant. Well, that is what it is like for most of us living in Tucson in September.
We have been through months of 100 degree plus heat and we are wilted. It isn’t just the temps we need relief from. We want to breath fresh cool air. We want to step outside and not feel like we are a cookie in an easy bake oven. We are weary of sitting on the patio into the evening having our hearing aids short circuiting from the moisture running down our heads to our necks. ( Got the point I think : )
I walked into McDonald’s this morning, (You do all know I eat at McDonald’s almost every morning) and the regulars were showing up with smiles on their faces. Why, because for the last two days the weather here has turned to fall in the air. We have been walking with our wilted bodies through the summer and now there is a spring in the step and a smile on the face and we say to each other “Ah, this is why we live in Arizona”. Our limbs aren’t drooping and our lungs are taking in the cool morning air.
Yes folks it is here. The fall and winter of summer is here. The time of year when we turn the AC off at night and throw the windows and doors open. When we set outside and watch the sun set in the West and the city lights become bright in the night. When we see our lowest utility bills of the year and we put on our shorts to play golf, not because we have to but because the rest of the country is freezing and because we can.
We are coming into that time of year when we call our relatives back North and East and tell them it is only in the 70′s today, burrr; knowing it is below freezing where they are and taking great pleasure in saying we are wearing shorts and getting the grill ready because we are having some steaks for supper. Ah, Yes!
The season of wilt is over.
Nice post. Sitting on the patio last night was such a treat. Yay for October.
