Bugs or the Lack Thereof

I’ve had less than 6 mosquitoes bites since moving to Tucson in August of 1999. For anyone that remembers that was before the Y2K scare when all the worlds computers were to stop functioning because of the date change. For those too young or to old to remember it didn’t happen.
During my recent journey geographical and back in time I stopped in Iowa City, Iowa a couple of weeks after the flooding or as some call it (The Great Flood of 2008). My daughter and son-in-law (I prefer to call them Justan and Suzi, they have pet rats) were taking me through the exit route I would take the next morning to go to Ohio for my class reunion (since you asked 40th). When we approached the bridge over the Iowa River we were greeted by street lights with what appeard to be a small tornado under each.
On the way back they let me out of the car (still not sure that was a good idea) so I could get a good shot of the bugs around the light.
They have visited Tucson and lived for a short time in Arizona. They remember there weren’t many bugs in Tucson. Compared to the rest of the country there aren’t any bugs in Tucson. When I stop for gas I clean the windshield of dirt. But almost never bugs.
You might not think about life without mosquitoe bites, or insect repellant, but I can honestly say, it is nice. No need for fogging, bug lights, insect repellant or scrapping the remains of bugs from your windshield as you fill up.
There are some bugs, some big ones even. But nothing like what I’ve just scene or scrapped the remains of from my windshield.
Besides, great weather, majestic mountain views and beautiful clear skies we have very few bugs. I’m not sure that anyone would move to Tucson because of the lack of bugs, but it sure doesn’t hurt.
Yes, I was tempted to title this, “Bug Lite in Tucson” thank you for asking : )

We had some good and some bad real estate news here in SoCal. Home sales were up 14% in July over July of last year, the first year over year increase in a while. But the average price fell from $550 to well under $400.
