It was a couple of months ago I went downtown on an early Saturday morning and went for a short photo walk by the main library and across the street to the Pima County Courthouse and the El Pracideo park behind.  It was the first time since I moved to Tucson in 1999 that I had been downtown on a weekend.

Two weeks ago I went back.  This time I expanded my walking area considerably.  I parked again on Pennington street and made my way up to the Hotel Congress to the East and back down to La Placita on the West.  I had a blast and this Saturday morning I invited Barbara to come along on another photo walk.  (It is best not to disappear every Saturday morning)

I got the backup camera (a Nikon D40) setup so she could be more than a tag along.  It was her first photo walk and it was interesting to observe her reaction to going downtown to take pictures.

At first it was going from place to place taking pictures of certain buildings with fast walks between them.  Since she had never been on a photo walk this is what she figured I did.  It took awhile to slow her down, soon she started to see some of the interesting things we were buzzing right by before.  Taking images of things that caught the eye and at first glance didn’t appear to be anything of real interest.

By the time we had spent a couple of hours you would have thought she was a regular.  Since digital film is cheap we all have the luxury of snapping away at whatever the eye sees.  You can have a lot of fun (cheap) on a Saturday morning down town.  Parking is free on weekends and there are plenty of places to get something to drink or eat.

Once we got home it was time to process the images and pick out the ones that were “keepers”

The Arrows was the top choice of the day.  Here are the rest of the group which were her favorites.  It was a lot of fun and we are planning more photo walks around town.

    Hi Dave
I live in Portland OR. We bought a house in Tucson a couple years ago and are hoping to relocate. I check your site quite often and really enjoy the photos and commentary. We are going to be in Tucson in April and I am going to look up some of the places you have her since we are staying downtown. Keep up the good work!!
