Is Pima Cotton From Pima County
The short answer. I doubt it. This was an interesting questioned posed to me this weekend. I’ll be honest, I’ve never heard of Pima or Supima cotton before. After a little research I discovered a lot about Pima cotton. I don’t know if the cotton to the right is Pima Cotton. It was grown just outside Arizona City, Arizona. Pima Cotton has to have a length of at least 1 3/8″.
Pima cotton was named in honor of the Pima Indians who were growing the cotton for the United States Department of Agriculture in Sacaton, Arizona, where the government’s Pima Improvement Program was being conducted.
Pima County was also named after the Pima Indain Tribe. Thus the commonality of name. Pima cotton is fascinating. There is an excellent website dedicated to Pima cotton which can answer just about any question you might have about Pima Cotton.
Did I say Pima cotton enough? Do you think I’ll remember it? : )
