La Encantada Snowfall Evening

Friday night we went over to the first snowfall event of the season at La Encantada Mall. It has become a family tradition to step into a Norman Rockwell painting and enjoy the 15 minutes of magic. With a little planning you can stretch it to over an hour.
I compared it last year to Main street Disney saying: “The atmosphere is right out of main street in the Enchanted Kingdom at Disney World. Although smaller and shorter, but hey Tucson is a long way from Orlando.“ Tucson hasn’t gotten any closer to Orlando but it has learned how to create an enchanted moment in time.
More than a moment. At 6 pm. (sharp) the snow begins to fall in the main courtyard and balcony. It lasts for 15 minutes and it is nothing less than fun. Once the snow stopped falling the music began from the singers below. The whole atmosphere was wonderful. Far from the honking of horns and pushing people around to get to a “bargain” that is usually associated with “Black Friday”. Here families were sitting on the grass, couples holding hands, shoppers smiling, yes smiling at each other.
We listened to the music and did some shopping. I took the photos above and then at 6:45 the second 15 minutes of magic started. We stayed, it was as magical as the first.
The snowfall and music will be every Friday and Saturday night for each weekend till Christmas. Believe me, if you take the time to go you won’t be disappointed.
Our Time Together
We had talked about going to see a movie. Then Barbara reminded me of the snowfall at La Encantada Mall starting at 6 pm. We got there a little before 5:30 and stopped at AJ’s Fine Foods; me for coffee and Barbara for a steamer. We sat on the patio by the big fireplace and watched the sun set.
At 5:50 we made our way to the courtyard baclony and finished our drinks as the snow began to fall. There was a brisk wind and the air was damp from the recent rain. Perfect weather for our version of snow. We ran into friends and shared a few moments with them. A little shopping and I made my way to the rose garden. The scent of roses filled the air. The snowman in the window seemed to wink as I was taking his picture. The second snowfall began and people had flakes in their hair. It was on the lights above and the benches were covered as well.
Once it stopped a trip around the corner to Frost was just the ticket. A small cup of lemonchello and a few minutes on a bench overlooking the city while the lemonchello was slowly diappearing from the cup. Then it was down the escalator and home. Our shopping in hand the magic of the evening coming home with us. We stretched the 15 minutes of magic into over an hour and got to enjoy the festivity of the event twice.
If you want to start a great family tradition do it by going to the Enchanted snowfall events at La Encantada Mall.

That sounds like a wonderful tradition. I am all for anything that allows for families to spend quality time together especially around the holidays. How long has the mall been putting this on for?
