Living With Imperfections

Now a statement of the obvious “We don’t live in a perfect world”. Anyone disagree with this? Then why do so many of us hesitate to do something until the time is “perfect”.
Waiting for the Perfect Time
Most people that are successful in life don’t wait for perfection or the perfect time. They act; sometimes it leads to failure, other times to success. Quite often success is built on a foundation of failures.
Many people this weekend are waiting. Waiting for the economy to change for the better, waiting for . . . Not much is gained by waiting for the perfect time. It is better if we decide to live with imperfections and get on with our lives. I have found this to be true in many areas of my life.
Waiting for the perfect day to take a particular photograph; I have one shot I’ve been waiting two years to get. It isn’t quite perfect yet. Does this mean I haven’t taken any photos because I’m waiting? I take thousands of photographs a year. Many of them are not perfect. The light isn’t perfect, the subject isn’t perfect, the camera I have in my hand or the lens on the camera isn’t perfect. But I take the shot.
I’ve taken a lot of great photographs that weren’t “perfect”.
The photo above is not even one of the good ones. It is a study in imperfection.
- The time of day was too late.
- The light was wrong.
- The flower itself was past its peak and had spots on the petals (I removed the spots).
- Some of the petals were deformed.
- The focus due to the low light was limited to a small area in the center of the flower rendering much of the image out of focus.
- There is a green stem in the petals of the flower at the back.
- The wind was blowing and the flower was moving all over the place making it even harder to get an image in focus.
Why did I take the shot? Because I was there to shot. I was late, the wind was high the flower was past it’s prime, but I took the shot. I tweaked the image but it is far from perfect. Yet it brings life to this post. It serves as an example of beauty even if not perfect. If it brings one smile to a face, one pleasant memory of a childhood past, it will have been the cause of a perfect moment even with it’s imperfections.
My point. Unless I had pointed out all these imperfections would you have noticed?

Dave, I certainly get your drift. However, sometimes–like now–it is just a very good time to sit back and try to relax and see where things are headed. I am very sorry that you and many others are in an industry that is currently in a severe slump, but it is not our responsibility to buy (or try to sell) homes in this environment.
While there may never be the perfect time to sell or buy a home there is also a time not to consider it. And we are in those times. I know you in the RE industry can only make a living if people buy and sell real estate, but now is NOT a good time to buy. Unfortunately for your industry the majority of us understand that if there ever is a bounce upward that it will be a long time in coming.
Your industry has cried wolf too many times and we just ain’t buying any longer (”this is the bottom”, “now is the time to buy”, “buy or be priced out”, “you need the tax deduction”, “real estate always goes up”, “people from other parts of the country or world will buy”). The platitudes are no longer effective!

Frank,
Thanks for your comment. But, from your comment I can tell you didn’t get my drift. I’ll do my best to clarify this in tomorrow’s post. I can tell you this, I wasn’t writing about real estate.
Posts placed in the Tucson Living category are just that, about living in Tucson and life observations. This was not intended to be a Real Estate related post.
Have a Great evening, check back tomorrow.
Dave
