Rocks Toasters and Copper Bubbles around Tucson
Today we were out with a fantastic family looking for a new home. It is always fun to be with people when they first come to Tucson and everything they see is new.
While we were out we saw:
- cottontail rabbits
- jack rabbits (WOW they really have long ears!)
- coyotes
- fishhook barrel cactus
- organ pipe cactus
- palm trees with sharp frawns
- copper bubbles coming out of a rock
- toaster parts growing out of a rock
- humming birds
- a cloud that looked like Snoopy
Oh, yeah, we saw a lot of houses. Some of the same vacant houses we were in the past couple of days as mentioned in yesterday post Tucson Vacant Homes for Sale.
I thought you might be interested in seeing some of these things we saw today. The copper is mined in the Tucson area,
I’ve seen a lot of copper colored rocks around Tucson, but this is the first time I’ve seen copper bubbles. If you click on any of these images you can see an enlarged version.
These rock really are quite striking when you see them.
I’m not sure if Mica used to be mined here or not. There is plenty of it around town in the rocks. I visited Tucson for the first time in 1960. My cousin took me somewhere out in the desert on his motor bike and we found rocks with large sheets of mica in them. It wasn’t until later I found out that mica is, (or at least used to be) an intricate part of a toaster.
That only leaves the Snoopy cloud. Are you sure you want to see the Snoopy cloud. Barbara doesn’t see cloud figures the same way I do (that might be because most of the time she is driving and I”m looking for clouds). Some of them she sees right away, but Snoopy cloud wasn’t one of them.
Well, of course this doesn’t look like Snoopy. You have to click on the picture to see the whole thing. I can see Snoopy, I even saw Woodstock in one, but I”m not going to show you that one especially if you can’t see Snoopy in this one.
It is a great experience sharing the wonders of Tucson with people that have never been to the desert or seen a wild coyote cross the road in front of them. To see copper bubbles coming right out of a rock and discover a palm tree has thorns and there are rocks on the ground that have toaster parts in them. And occasionally there are clouds that look like Charlie Brown Characters in the sky. Tucson is an amazing place to live.

Dave,
I enjoy both of your real estate blogs. Keep up the good work.
The copper mineral you saw is chrysocolla. You can test it by licking your finger and pressing on the mineral. If it sticks its chrysocolla.
Keith,
WOW that cool, I didn’t know that. I might be by there tomorrow, if so I’m going to try it. I’m sure the neighbors are going to wonder what that crazy man is doing licking his finger and holding it against a rock.
Keith,
BTW, can you see Snoopy in the cloud?
I’m really glad you like the blogs. Writing for them is a labor of love on my part. But it is certainly nice to know there is someone out there reading them.
I see Snoopy and I read this site everyday. Cool pics and nice to have a peak at BB more often. ;o)
Beth : )
WOW you read it everyday, that’s cool, and better yet, YOU CAN SEE SNOOPY !!!!!!!!!!
For the rest of the world ls is little sister. Yep Beth never gets a letter from me, I still have her birthday card on my desk to send, that was back in August. Darn where is that card? And I email her a few times a year. And I love her to pieces.
Now that I know you read this everyday I’ll have to throw in a few more things of interest for you. Oh, I miss you.
BB
Keith,
“chrysocolla. You can test it by licking your finger and pressing on the mineral. If it sticks its chrysocolla.”
Yesterday I was back at that house. The neighbors were everywhere and I didn’t want to look like the crazy man in front of the whole neighborhood licking my finger and holding it to a rock to see if it would stick.
I found a small one with the bubbles on it, took it inside licked my finger, pressed it to the rock and sure enough it stuck.
Kieth, I gotta tell you, you really impressed me with this one. I never thought I could stick my finger to a rock by just licking it. My finger, not the rock : )
Dave,
I can see Snoopy in the clouds.
Its usually a good idea not to lick rocks, but if you did lick chrysocolla it would stick to your tongue the same way.
Keith
