Camelot Comes to Tucson
I have the privilege and opportunity to live close to the Gallery at Dove Mountain course where the WGC Accenture Match Play will be held next week starting with practice rounds on February 18th. The tournament itself will begin on the 20 and run through the 24th.
I’ve been slipping out there for the past few weeks taking photographs as the event has been taking shape. It is an amazing effort going into making this a very special event. Many, many hours of work and preparation have gone into making this the WGC premier event that everyone anticipates and expects.
The Accenture isn’t like other golf tournaments. It is match play single elimination. There is no room for a bad day or a bad round. Even a bad hole can be the difference between staying another day or heading home early.
The big draw to the tournament is Tiger Woods. Everyone wants an opportunity to get even just a glimpse. But he doesn’t play this tournament alone. The top 64 golfers in the world are invited to this tournament. Phil Mickelson will be here and every body attending hopes they will be there on a day when Phil and Tiger are paired together. At least in their dreams : )
The courses to be used are at elevations of 2,700 to 4,300. If the air is still the golf balls fly like eagles. If it is windy, it is very windy at those elevations. But one thing is certain. The courses and grounds look like something right out of Camelot. The beauty of this place and the preparations that have gone into this weeks event lend themselves to a week of truly magical moments for those playing and for those attending.
World Golf Championships Accenture Match Play
Want to get ready for this years tournament. Then go to the WGC Accenture Web site and read up on what happened last year. I don’t know if there are still tickets available or not. Here is the official Ticket Information from the WGC Accenture Match Play Web site.
Last year the tournament raised approximately 1.5 million dollars for more than 150 Arizona charities. Even more is expected to be raised at this year’s tournament.
As the sun sets each evening all of Dove Mountain becomes a place of wonder. The sun’s yellow glow highlights all the natural beauty of the majestic saguaro cactus and the high desert. The golf pavilions scattered throughout the landscape give it the air of a Renaissance fair and tournament.
I think I’ll try and catch one more sunset before the crowds and players arrive.
