2008 Update

The Tucson Air Show is coming to town this weekend. This air show’s theme is “Davis-Monthan and Tucson: 80 Years of Airpower for America!”

A couple of weekends ago practice for the show was going on in the skies over Tucson. You could look up any day that weekend and you might think you are seeing a glimps of a WWII fighter, and you just might have. There are vintage air craft flying as well as the “latest” F-15 and F-16 series.

This event is usually attended by more than 300,000 people.

This year’s show is planned to be very special. It is the 80th anniversary of Davis-Monthan and the 60th anniversary of the Air Force.

Davis-Monthan Air Force Base will open its gates to the public March 17 and 18 for the free air show which will begin at 9:30 a.m., and gates will open at 9 a.m.

The two-day air show will feature:

• military and civilian aerial demonstration
• static-display aircraft from across the United States

Scheduled performances will feature:

• The U.S. Navy Blue Angels
• The U.S. Army Golden Knights Parachute Team
• Davis-Monthan’s own A-10 Demonstration Team
• Air Force Reserve Aerobatic Pilots Ed Hamill, Tim Weber, Greg Poe, Kirby Chambliss
• The Tuskegee Airmen’s “Double Vee,”
• Davis-Monthan’s Combat Search and Rescue demonstrations.

Davis-Monthan is expecting a large number of spectators for this weekends event.
