Tucson Birthday 234 Today

Today is the day, the Big 234 for Tucson. Hard to believe isn’t it? Seems like just a 100 years ago when Rio Nuevo was started. But let’s not go there today.

It is also the day chosen to celebrate the Grand Opening of the new 4th Ave. underpass.   That celebration started this morning and the dedication began a few minutes ago.   I would love to be there and see the trolley car burst through the ribbon, but it is 104 outside at the moment and I’m still sitting here in the office writing this.

We do plan on heading downtown a little later but 104 to 106 is above my comfort level especially when carrying a black camera.   The celebration for the 4th Ave. underpass goes on till after 10 pm. tonight.

There is a Tweet Crawl from 5 – 8 pm tonight.

Never been on a tweet crawl.   Want to join in.   Here’s the map to the first Tucson Tweet Crawl that I recall.

The Birthday celebration goes on through August 31.   You can get a T-shirt, hat, and other celebratory items from the Tucson Birthday.org site.

The site also will have a continual updated calendar of celebration events over the next 11 days.   If you miss today’s festivities there will be plenty more going on.

Tucson’s Birthday on Twitter

Yep, nothing back woods about Tucson these days.   There is a Tucson Birthday Twitter account you can follow to have instant updates of what’s going on.   All you have to do is follow Tucson Birthday on Twitter.

Tucson celebrations are entering the Social Media age and realm.   With Twitter, Facebook Tweet Crawls; the mayor on Twitter sending “tweets” who could ask for more?   Cake and Ice Cream?   you bet!

    Gene,

They are almost all open, by Sept. 1 they should be all open even the ones downtown. They might close one at a time as landscaping is done but most are open now and it is wonderful.
