The Tucson Crime Map is provided by the Arizona Daily Star . Using this map you can see what types of crimes are being committed in Tucson and where they are taking place. You can go back to Yesterday, a week, a couple of weeks, a month, it is up to you. It uses typical map navigation. Grab the map and move it around or use the arrows and the + or – to zoom in or out. Check and Uncheck the types of crimes you want to track.
The map might look pretty full especially if it is a weekend or Monday. But I found if you uncheck “Suspicious Activity” a lot of the dots go away.
I’ve never used a crime map before when purchasing a home. I can see how it would be useful to check out a neighborhood or subdivision.
We sometimes get question “Is it safe to live in this neighborhood” ? or “Is this a high crime area”? You might be surprised at this but we aren’t allowed to answer either one of those questions. It would be a fair housing violation. Looking at these questions from the federal governments position answering either of these would be “steering” either steering you away from or toward a particular area or subdivision.
What we are allowed to do is provide you the resources to determine the answer to those questions for yourself. Each of our circumstances and life experiences are different. We can’t determine what to you would be considered a high crime or low crime area of town.
This map is interesting, but could be depressing if you spend too much time looking at it. Use it as a tool for making wise decisions. Spending time each day looking at this map can be depressing, even worse than reading the newspaper every day.
