I recently had a need to get rid of some old laser printers. I wasn’t sure where to take them to recycle so they sat in the garage for over a year. Finally in late November I took them to Office Max. There was no charge. I’ve also heard that Best Buy will take your old printers as well.
On Christmas day the Arizona Daily Star published an article: Don’t throw away old electronics There was a lot of interesting information and an admonition for all of us to keep the metals from electronics from leaching into the ground water. I appreciate their taking the space to cover this critical issue. Below is the list of recyclers published in that article.
Tucson Electronics Recyclers
- Rise Equipment Recycling Center (formerly Pima Computer Recycling), 623-7162, 1134 S. Park Ave. Accepts working and nonworking computers, TVs and other electronics (cell phones are collected for reuse). There is a $10 fee for TV sets and a $2 fee for CRT (cathode-ray tube) computer monitors. Old cellular phones are donated to a local women’s shelter for emergency use.
- World Care, 514-1588, 3538 E. Ellington Place (near East Aviation Highway and South Alvernon Way). Along with other electronics, World Care accepts working and nonworking TV sets, but there is a 25-cent-per-pound fee for nonworking TVs.
- Los Reales Landfill, 791-4183, 5300 E. Los Reales Road (Los Reales and South Swan Road). Accepts computers (no TVs or other electronics) for recycling at its CABOP (computers, antifreeze, batteries, oil, paint) center. One computer per household per visit. TVs and other electronics are trashed.
- Beacon Group accepts working TVs and electronics only at its Value Village location, 2700 N. Stone Ave., 792-1454. Or call 622-5263 for pickup of large items.
- Suburban Miners residential drop-off, 3959 E. Speedway Suite No. 305 (Central Point Plaza). The for-profit commercial recycler offers free residential service (call ahead at 406-7446 for best service). For more information, go to www.suburbanminers.com

I just called this “company,” and had one of the most unprofessional conversations with one of the employees. Also, their website is entirely misleading and they are completely unapologetic about it.
The web page:
http://www.suburbanminers.com/residential.php
Clealy states that pickup is _free_ and that no job is _too large_ or _too small_. I called for my widowed mother who has an old large-screen television and monitor that needs to be recycled and the person on the phone said that it would be a $65 pickup charge since he “has to hire two guys and a truck” to come and get my items. I read the web page word-for-word, and he asked, “what’s your point?” The point is, as anyone over the age of four can tell you, that the web page is misleading and that this company is not at the top of its customer service game. He continued with “I’m no under obligation to pick up the items” and “maybe if you had 10 TVs or monitors, it would be worth it.”
He flippantly asked if I had anything else I’d like to discuss, and I advised him that it might be in his best interest to change his web page so that people like me weren’t misled in the future. He response: “whatever, dude.”
I would suggest avoiding this company until someone takes a class in customer service at a local community college or at least asks someone age 10 and up why it’s not ok to respond to a potential customer with “whatever, dude.”
David,
You are correct. I checked the site and it says exactly what you say in your comment. Thanks for the feedback. I hope they take a good look at their policy.
A call to the BBB might be in order.
Dave
I had a “small” job too. I decided to see if this would happen to me and it did. I got someone who told me quite rudely that they would not go out to a place to get small loads. When I pointed out the same thing about their website I got the runaround. I told them I was quite angry that their web promised something that they did not do. They told me to go and find someone else and that I wasting their time. I wont waste their time anymore and I will find someone who wants my business!
Well, I can agree it is annoying to be misled by a website and they should change it. You guys are wanting something for free, what business are you threatening to withdraw. They should change the website to stop the annoying phone calls wanting them to loose money picking up other peoples garbage.
Hi there Dave,
My name’s Nate with American Retroworks. I came across this page in a google search for recycling TV’s in Tucson.
As it turns out, the AZ Star did an article about American Retroworks here in Tucson regarding our new pickup service which started (officially) in December of 2011.
