Tucson February 2008 Hold onto Your Hats
I should say hold onto your hats. It might be a miners hat with a light, a cowboy hat, or a golf hat. All three could be donned this month. Here comes February in Tucson. Many await its arrival for different reasons. Though February is the shortest month of the year, but not as short as last year. (Did you know leap year always falls in a presidential election year to give the politicians an extra day to campaign, YEAH).
In Tucson we pack in a lot of interesting events in one short month.
The Tucson Gem and Mineral Show
This event is a real gem. Oh, yes, pun intended. You won’t really need a miner’s hat and light to attend this but it would be fun. This is no small one or two day event like many held across the country. This show starts on Saturday February 1st (TODAY) and runs through February 17, 2008. There are a lot of side event in association with this “mother ship” event at the center of it all. This would be the 54th Annual Tucson Gem and Mineral Show running Feb. 14 - 17 at the Tucson Convention Center.
The entire gem show event will attract around 55,000 people during the two weeks. We will have more information on this event on Monday.
The Tucson Rodeo
The Tucson Rodeo know as the “La Fiesta de los Vaqueros” will be held in Tucson February 16-24. It is the 83rd annual rodeo and it attracts around 11,000 fans every year. There is a Tucson Rodeo Parade associated with this event as well.
If you want to experience a little bit of the “Old West” today then head out to the rodeo and don’t forget to wear you best cowboy attire. This is a big event in Tucson. Schools are out during rodeo for all the kids to participate. (Some skip town to vacation in California) : )

The Accenture Match Play
Rounding out the month is the Accenture Match Play. This is the second year in Tucson (Marana) and it already looks to be a much improved event. It was fine last year but as any event held for the first time in a new location it had a few growing pains. There has been a lot of work put into making this years event go much smoother. The top 64 golfers in the world will come beginning Feb. 20 - 24. This years tournament will be played at The Gallery Golf Club at Dove Mountain, South Course. Ticket information is available at World Golf Championships.
February in Tucson is a fun, usually warm and busy place. A place to put on your various hats and strut your stuff. You can also find a lot of good food for each of these events being held around Tucson in February. We take off our hats to Tucson in February. There is plenty to do and see.
