Tucson Monsoon Rain

I’m at a meeting this morning in downtown Tucson. Getting here was a challenge this morning. Driving with one hand, dodging around heavy water while looking through a camera and snapping pictures of on coming traffic about to bury my windshield in water.

Flooded AreaAn early morning rain can be especially interesting because of rush hour and so many people trying to get to work. There are far more washes than bridges in Tucson. The streets can be flooded to the curb in twenty minutes and in another twenty minutes it is gone.

I passed one tow truck with a car attached, (sorry no photo, had to dodge the truck, car and on coming rooster tail.

Often newcomers to Tucson will have never encountered streets that are as flooded as they are in Tucson during monsoon. There are typically two reactions. Absolute euphoria for those that have high riding vehicles and love creating rooster tails. The other reaction is absolute horror, especially if you find one of the euphoric people coming down the road right at you spraying water in every direction.

One thing about living in Tucson, it is never dull. It might be hot, but it isn’t dull.

Dave - Nice pictures. I try to stay inside during monsoon storms. Chuck George corrected me from just saying monsoon. Were you out when the two merged together over downtown last week? Wow.

    Doug,

I barely got home that afternoon from Vail no less before the great confligration took place. I took these pictures yesterday morning on the way to TAR for the blogging meeting in the conference room.

I shot the images, edited, wrote the post and published while in the meeting. So why can’t you say monsoon? Do you have to qualify it as the Tucson monsoon?
