Pappoule's on La cholla tucsonThe world traveler in our family is also the youngest member of our family. Right after school was over in the spring she was off to London, Paris, and The Pyrenees with her French class, home a day and off to Minnesota for the summer. Home four days and off to San Diego for yearbook training on new software for three days. Tomorrow school starts.

During these travels she developed a liking for gyros. The other day after getting back from San Diego and sleeping for a day it was off to find a Greek Restaurant in Tucson. Actually, we saw one while driving by the Foothills Mall on La Cholla, Pappoule’s Authentic Greek Cafe.

This past weekend we stopped in for our first visit. It took awhile to look at the menu with all the options they had to offer. Barbara got the Chicken Salad Pita and Spanakopita (spinach pie). I got the Portabella Mushroom Pita and Spanakopits. The world traveler had a Chicken Ka-Bob. All of these came with Tzatziki sauce. I don’t know how to say it, and I don’t know what is in it, but I can tell you it is very good.

Tucson Pappoule's LogoWow! it was all very good.

While we were eating I kept seeing basket after basket of great looking salads, sandwiches and fries going by. All of them looked ready to photography and they smelled wonderful.

I think everyone has gone to eat at a new place, looked at the pictures on the wall of great looking food and made up our minds. We pick one we think is absolutely mouth watering only to be served something which doesn’t look anything like the picture. Once I was so disappointed I said, “No, I want one of those!” pointing to the picture. The waiter only smiled politely and turned saying, “I would like to have one of those myself”.

Today we were back for lunch. I brought the camera along. This is my Portabella Pita and my own basket of fries. Yes, I shared with the girls.

I wish you could smell how good this was. Barbara liked the bite of grilled juicy portabella she tried this weekend so much she also ordered one.

World traveler never wanting to be known as a person eating in a rut decided to have the Pappoule’s Famous Gyros Sandwich with Tzatziki sauce. Everyone of us enjoyed, and devoured our lunch. I showed great restraint in waiting till I was done taking pictures before diving in. (When you start blogging and taking pictures of your food people will stare : )

Pappoule’s Catering

If you are planning your own Big Fat Greek Wedding or just a Big Fat Greek Party, Pappoule’s can provide the food for your event.

Pappoule’s Menu

I picked up a menu on the way out after lunch today. I’ve scanned it in two documents because of the size and I wanted to preserve the color of the menu. Here is the menu in PDF format.

For those that don’t know in Adobe Reader, to the right of the page magnification is Rotate. You can rotate the page counterclockwise and not have to break your neck trying to read the menu. I just found this myself. : ) My neck thanks me.

Pappoule’s has three locations in Tucson:

  • Tucson Mall 520-888-8611
  • Park Mall 520-747-1814
  • Foothills Mall 520-544-5551

Finally, for the cynics that might have just read this post; NO, I/we did not and never will receive anything for free from Pappoule’s or any other place I write about. I write because these are places we would recommend to a friend if they were visiting or asked. We consider everyone that visits this site to be a friend. So you might not like the same things we do, but you can be assured we only recommend what we want to share. Barbara, world traveler and myself want to have Pappoule’s in Foothills Mall for a long time to come. If we have to stand in line from time to time so be it. We would love to meet you there sometime.

The view from inside is pretty good too.

Darn, went to Foothills mall (which is quite the trek for me) on Sunday, but didn’t know of the existence of this place. Still can’t picture where it could be… Must be on the side of the movie theater. I never go there. I know there’s a Greek stand in the food court of Park Mall, but I’m not a big fan of this kind of eating experience and never paid attention to its name. This place appears to have tables outside, though. Great lead for a European and a smoker, Dave. As you know, out social life is quite limited in this country and even more so in Tucson in particular. Thanks.:-)

It is at the northeast end of the mall across from where Starbucks and beside the Sprint Store. You can’t get to it from inside the mall itself.

They also have the other two locations at Tucson Mall and Park Mall, I don’t know where they are located in those mall. The Foothills location does have it’s own outdoor seating facing the mountains in the last picture of the post.

I haven’t been to Tucson mall in ages, but I do remember the Greek stand. It’s also in the food court. Unless something’s changed, there were tables outside, too, but for the whole food court. I found Foothills mall more “humanized.” ;-) Even Borders finally figured it’s not such a horrendous idea to put a few tables out. Since they’re apparently trying to save even on plastic bags nowadays ;-), they can certainly afford a few tables.;-) You pay $27 for a book and you get a “sweet” question: ‘do you need a bag?’… heck, yeah!

borders shopping bagYou, really cracked me up with that one : ) It does seem extremely stingy. We shop in their store, we pay good money for a book and they try and save a penny at our expense on the bag!

    Well, I don’t think you can fit a book in it, but here’s a Border’s bag : )

  5. concerned ;-) from the other blog Says:

He-he, thanks for the baggie, Dave.:-) Don’t think they’ll be too happy if our shopping fits in it.;-)

If you like Greek food and entertainment and happen to be in Phoenix overnight on Fri or Sat, I’d recommend Bacchanal - http://www.bacchanalgreekaz.com/home.html . It’s a lot of fun! It’s located in somewhat shabby part of town, but it’s worth it! The owner is amazing, as you can see in the videos (something’s wrong with the 1st one right now).
