Tucson Take a Look at PicLens
PicLens is a plugin for the Firefox browser (which I use almost all the time) for viewing images in a very imaginative and fun way. Yes it is fun. I installed it on my browser earlier this week and to be honest I forgot about it. Once it was installed I didn’t even know what to do with it or how to turn it on in the browser.
I’ll be perfectly honest with you. For some people being a geek or a web surfer just comes naturally. Click, click batta bing batta boom, they know everything in 10 seconds or less and can even describe how the code works. For me I work very hard at it; nothing is intuitive. I’m not curious enough to just go clicking everywhere and on everything. Some times I discover things weeks and months after everyone else. I don’t even say “Hey, did you know . . . ” not anymore, all I get is a grown like I just found last weeks paper and was asking about an article I read.
Today I was in my Flickr photo account. I just uploaded a couple of images and wanted to add some titles and descriptions. I noticed this little arrow appear on the bottom of the image and when I clicked on it to see what would happen (Yes, sometimes I do just click on stuff too) it was like a portal to another world and dimension. Suddenly all my images were there in the most amazing collection. It was incredible to see them floating on the screen. I found a button in the lower left hand corner and it made them come full size. But the other screen where you can scroll in and out and have them float is really cool.
Above is the link to PicLens and it is very easy to install the plugin. You have to exit Firefox and start again. You can see PicLens work with Google Images, Yahoo, Flickr, theres a list. If you don’t have Firefox it is free at the Mozilla Website
I think almost everyone that reads here knows I love to take pictures. I only get to use a small fraction of the ones I take on this blog and they have to be sized down considerably. If you want to see a more extensive set of images then install PicLens and head on over to http://www.flickr.com/photos/daveintucson/
