The wildflower season is in full swing. All around town you can see poppies, daisies, perry penstemon, lupines, chicory, etc. They are everywhere you look. The globemallows are beginning to show their colors and will be filling the air with pollen for months to come. The Fairy dusters in a variety of pinks, burgundies reds are everywhere.
I remember the spring of 2008, it was called by many “The best wildflower season in 30 years”. This year is even better. Oro Valley is full of wildflowers. Head up 77 (Oracle Rd.) toward Oracle and you will see vast fields of yellow toward the Catalinas. Drive up State Route 79 and Lupines and poppies line the road.
Almost any road in town has wildflowers of one type or another in the medians and along side the road.
The abundant spring rains that continued yesterday are providing the much needed water for this crop and should extend the season by a few weeks.
I’ll be posting some images here, at Painting Tucson photo blog and on Flickr over the coming days and weeks. There’s a lot of color in the desert this spring. Take a look at the beauty as you drive around town.

Arizona is so beautiful this time of year. The weather is perfect, the sun is shining and now the flowers are out. Tucson sounds picturesque. Here in Scottsdale the desert has never looked greener than this year.
