It is Real But Not a Palm

A Palm Tower

I mentioned earlier this week I was out of town last week at the BlogWorld conference in Las Vegas.  While I was there I observed several things that were noted differences from here in Tucson and I’m not talking about the Strip or Gambling.

The terrain looks a lot like Tucson high desert, arid, lots of palm trees, some grass, but there was also a Monorail right outside my door.  Lots of building construction with high rise cranes everywhere.  And a slot in the wall of my room to control the air conditioning.  I’ll share some images of these things in the next couple of days.

I’ve read about these and there might even be some in Tucson.  I’ve never seen any and might not have seen this one if the sun coming up hadn’t hit this tree the way it did.  It certainly blended in with the other trees in it’s surroundings.

If you have spotted these around Tucson would you let me know where you have seen them?

I know I see a lot of regular cell towers and even though I like a good signal where ever I am around town.  I would like the towers to be a little less noticeable when possible.

I think Tucson’s desert is one (if not) the most scenic in America. We have the majestic Saguaro’s and lots of diversity even though we’re in the Sonoran Desert. Las Vegas sits in the Mojave Desert which is much dryer and plants have a hard time living there naturally.

Wow! That is a very clever idea. I would love for our cell towers here in Tucson to be so cleverly disguised.

Yep, we’ve got those all over California, I’ve seen the ones that look like pine trees here too although the palms look nicer. They are hidden in other places you would never think. You know those huge signs on the sides of freeways advertising businesses in a shopping center? They’re in some of those too. In the mid west they put them in silos…lol. In church steeples, etc.

    Garrett,

We just got one a couple of month ago that is a giant Saguaro cactus. It comes with the hole in it for the birds. Fake cactus, yep fake hole. They do make cell towers easier on the eyes and landscape. I think it is a very positive way to blend into the landscape and it seems to have quieted a lot of residential resistance. It is always fun to hear people complain about poor cell service at home while picketing for no cell tower in their neighborhood.

I see those in Phoenix all over the place

    Evan,

We are seeing more cell towers as Saguaro Cactus around town since I wrote this post, but still no palm trees.
