Puffing is a term used in Real Estate that is similar to exaggerate; embellish is probably a better term.
Puffing is legal to an extent.
It is called puffing for obvious reasons, you are describing a property in more poetic and subjective terms.
It is allowed because so much of what goes into a home is a matter of personal taste.
What one person thinks is great the next might want to rip out and replace. There is no single definition of beauty other than the saying, “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.”
However, it can be abused; Let’s take this modern home above found in sunny Orlando, Florida.
I could describe this as:
- A home having Great Views from every side.
- It has flow through ventilation.
- Solar heating and cooling.
- Lush vegetation.
- Rustic.
- A place to get in touch with your natural self.
Everything I’ve said about this true. Did you catch the puffing in the description above “modern home“ Modern in the sense it was recently built, not modern in style and ammenities. See what I mean.
Some Puffing terms have a meaning all their own. Here are a couple of examples:
- Quaint = Old
- Cozy = Small
- Needs TLC = Major Fix-up
