What we need and what we want are different, but you often can’t tell that from today’s society. Have you heard the saying “The more you have the more you want.”? It is true. I hear and read about the credit crunch, the housing crunch, and the lack of affordable housing.
There is a huge disconnect in this nation between what we want and what we need.
I read awhile back about the woes of a family loosing there home because they could no longer “Afford” to make their payments on the home and had gone into foreclosure. Yes, they were about to be without a home. But the big concern to the family besides being homeless was where to store their 4 cars, 4 ATV’s their boat and motor home. They were making payments on all of these. Apparently, these things they could “afford”. It was the home that was un-affordable.
I read everyday in the paper about how bad the economy is. Folks the economy is far from bad. How do I know this?
I know this by reading the paper everyday. What do I find there?
Cupcoats a decorative way to dress up your coffee cup with an Insulated Designer Cupcoat. They have a website where you can order www.cupcouture.com They are only $12 apiece. Why am I providing a link? Because I want you to see it to believe it. Are we in crisis economically when you can still buy over the web a $12 designer isulated cup coat for your coffee cup? Wait, there is more, if you get the Faux Chinchilla it is $16. You can see it here.
On the same page an inexpensive but nicely featured watch for $99.95. This is cheap, right?
I turn the page and see Sebago mocs starting at $75 up to $90 a pair, not each, what a bargain.
Yes, we seem to be able to afford Cupcoats and Moccasins and Watches, but we can’t afford a home.
There seems to be no distinction anymore between what we want and what we need.
I think I need a cup of coffee, well, at least I want a cup of coffee.
