Vanity Lights
I don’t think I need to provide any insight into Black Friday for the ladies of the house. If it were invented by retailers it was perfected by the ladies. There is an art form to Black Friday that goes way beyond the surface appearance of Chaos. I know there are whole planning sessions on Thanksgiving for how to capture to the flag, or the appliance, or the bargain the next day on Black Friday. For some it is like a commando raid on local retailers with no hold barred and no prisoners taken.
This leaves the guys. Some of you will become place holders. This is unavoidable in certain family structures. For others, besides going to Home Depot or Lowes to add more tools to the unopened collection of tools in the garage, it is the opportunity to make a few purchase which can increase the value of your domicile.
Here is an example of what I’m talking about. In many of the homes in Tucson and Oro Valley are the vanity lights in the photo above. They are standard, (cheap) lights which are not Green and burn a lot of watts. You can replace these fixtures in an afternoon project. Installing great looking lights and using energy efficient bulbs can make the bathroom brighter, more elegant and save you money.
Even if you aren’t planning on selling your home you can make some upgrades which will increase the value. There are a lot of bargains to be had in lighting, ceiling fans, plumbing fixtures etc. Maybe there is a stub for a sink in the garage but no sink. The hose bibs outside need replacing?
Put on your own Honey Do Hat and make a check list of things you can improve or fix which will add value to your home for little cost.
It is always a good idea to keep your home maintained so you don’t have a lot of deferred maintenance issues to deal with when you do want to put your home on the market.
If you tell your wife you what you are planning on doing on Black Friday it just might get you out of being a place holder. Think about it.
