Booties Bag Please Remove Your Shoes

I don’t think this is going to come as a shock to many people, but here goes.  Tucson is located in the desert.  Most deserts seem to have one thing very much in common, sand and dust.  Tucson is no exception.

Sand is rather easily tracked in a home. When it is very fine it can, on certain types of floors, leave marks or prints especially if shoes are not wiped or removed.

Selling a Tucson Home can be a challenge, especially in this economy.  Sellers don’t want to make it difficult for buyers once they actually come to look at the home.

When we come to a home which has booties at the front door and the seller wants us to remove our shoes or put the booties on over the shoes I usually stay outside.  If the carpets were recently cleaned or are still wet I sometimes make an exception.  But I’m not big on taking my shoes on and off to look at a home and a lot of buyers aren’t either.

Sending the Wrong Message to Buyers

The message sellers might think they are sending is, “we take good care of our floors”  But that isn’t the message most buyers receive.

The buyer message is usually one of the following.

  1. Are you saying I don’t know how to wipe my feet?
  2. Do you really think I’m going to track dirt all over your house?
  3. If you are making me take my shoes off to see the home how difficult will you be if I want to purchase it?
  4. Are these floors scratched that easily?
  5. Does this carpet show all dirt?
  6. Am I going to be mopping this tile every day?

We have some buyers who don’t want to take their shoes off, some tip toe around a couple of rooms, other peek in and leave.

What message are those booties sending to your potential buyers?
