Feng Shui to Sell Homes in Tucson–and San Diego

Today we have a guest post by my friend (whom I’ve never met) but she really is my friend and blogger Roberta Murphy. She authors the blog at San Diego Previews.

Balance in Life

I admit to having more than a passing interest in Feng Shui, especially when it can help both San Diego and Tucson home homeowners sell their homes more quickly–and generally for more money.

The number 9 in Feng Shui is auspicious, so how about nine tips that can make both San Diego real estate and Tucson homes more livable, more beautiful and ultimately, more sellable?

Start with a clean slate!

The single most important thing you can do to enhance the chi or energy of your home is to clear the space and declutter. Why?

The NINE reasons for space clearing are listed below:

1. Save time. How much time do you lose looking for items lost in clutter? How much time is lost in cleaning and shaking dust from from stuff cluttering your closets and shelves? How much time do you lose to disorganization?

2. Feel better immediately. Clear the clutter and you will automatically feel better about yourself and no longer feel that awkward shame when unexpected visitors stop by.

3. Increase energy levels. Clutter and junk are exhausting. Stagnant and stale energy that accumulates around disarray can drain human energy by holding one to the past–and blocking new abundance.

4. Lose weight. Can clutter affect your weight? Feng Shui Guru Karen Kingston thinks so. She contends that both body fat and clutter are forms of self-protection. Many of her clients miraculously lose weight when they let go of their junk. Take note!

5. Improve health. Kingston also claims that clutter-prone types may suffer from various forms of congestion including dull complexions, dull eyes and, well… constipation. (Hold that thought, but not for too long!)

6. Expand your wealth. How on earth can new abundance come into your life, when you’ve made no room for it? Have you ever noticed how quickly that empty closet fills? Clear out the junk and make room for new abundance. I have seen this work in my own life.

7. Clear your brain and unfog your thinking. Clutter confuses and dirt distracts. Believe me, there is nothing like a clean room and clear brain to foster good choices and decisions.  (Should I pull the trigger and buy that Tucson home now?)

8. Attract admirers. Like attracts like. Dave and I have both seen cleared and cleaned homes, whether in San DIego or Tucson, bring higher purchase offers because the buyers admired not only the home, but respected the seller as well. I have also seen cluttered and messy homes attract the vultures–especially in today’s distressed home market.

9. Engage a more adventurous life! Travel lightly. Clutter-bearers pack heavy suitcases (and pay extra fees)– and weigh down trucks when they move. As a result, they probably travel less and move less often. It is a form of entrapment and often forces people to purchase or remain in larger homes that will accommodate their “stuff.”

I have always been partial to George Carlin’s take on “stuff” (with bleeps)

Thanks Roberta for your guest post today.
