View of the Catalina Mountains it is beautiful, but we can't tell you where to live
Some questions we can’t answer because it is illegal for us to do so.
We get asked questions like:
- What are the best areas in Tucson to live?
- Where are the best schools in Tucson?
- What kind of crime do they have in this subdivision?
- Where are the poor areas of Tucson?
- Where are the best places to shop for a home?
We get asked these kinds of questions all the time, but we can’t answer them. They might sound innocent enough to you and you want to know you are making a good choice, but we honestly are not allowed to answer.
Why?
Because to answer any one of these questions is a Fair Housing Violation. It would appear that we are “steering” you either to certain neighborhood or away from certain areas of town.
We can provide you with websites and resources where you can check things out about Tucson for yourself and make any decisions you want to make about where you want to live or purchase Tucson real estate. But we can’t answer those questions directly.
We have a feduciary responsibility to represent our clients to the best of our ability, but we can not violate the law in the process.
If you ask a question in person or email and there is a pause or hesitance to answer this is probably the reason. If we say we can show you the areas of Tucson when you arrive that means we can’t “steer” you to any particular area of town.
You can ask a question like “Would you want to live here?” and that is a personal question and we can answer that one. But, Is this a good area? We can’t say it is “good” or “bad” it simply is, and it is up to you to determine if the area is one where you want to live.
It is a fine line and one we walk all the time.
