The Power of Wind being Harnessed

Traveling back to where I was born last summer I saw large fields of windmills that weren’t there the last time I traveled east. It hasn’t been that long but in the past few years a lot of windmills have gone up across the country. I saw them in Oklahoma, Kansas and Iowa.
Now I know they are being built in Arizona. Some of the parts for those windmills are here in Tucson having come in by rail and are now being trucked to north of Snowflake.

Loading Windmill Cylinders
The cylinders were taken off railroad cars and placed in a large area where the cranes you see pick them up and load them onto semi trailers for their trip north. Only one cylinder to a trailer. I don’t know where the blades will be off loaded. They are huge and fascinating to see two at a time on a semi going down the interstate.
While I was shooting last weekend the Heritage Flight Conference was going on at Davis Monthan. I saw a black spec in one of the images and until I zoomed in didn’t notice it was one of the planes flying for the conference. If you want to see the spec up close click the image below. To see the rest of the images click on any one of them. They are best viewed in Pic Lens.
Wind power is one of the things we are finally beginning to harness in meaningful amounts around the country.
