Are You Prepared for the Trip?
This past weekend we left our home and headed up State route 77 to Oracle, AZ. The plan was to take the back route out of Oracle on the Mt. Lemmon Rd. to fork at Wells Rd. Through San Manuel and then to pick up the Redington Rd. outside of town and head to Redington AZ.
Once we arrived at this spot on the map the plan was to continue on the Redington Rd. back to Tucson through Redington pass. Proceeding from there back home on the other side of Tucson. There was a lot of dirt road on the trip.
It wasn’t always easy going. Lots of washboard dirt road as well. Some smooth driving, but most of it was slow going and difficult.
The Rough Road to Home Ownership
Sounds a bit like the road to home ownership doesn’t it. Many of us are still on the road. I’ve never owned a home. I’ve purchased or built 6 homes in my lifetime so far, but I’ve never owned a home. There have always been payments to be made every month. Purchased homes, yes, owned a home, no. Most in this country are on the road to home ownership. Not many have arrived at the point where they own their home.
Along the way there can be some rough road. There is some smooth road at times, but right now it is rough road for many. As in our trip it is manageable with provisions. We made provision for the rough road and the possibilities. Spare tire, small air compressor, tire plugs, extra water, snacks, etc. All were provisions to make sure we were able to complete the journey we had embarked upon.
Rough road is something you can handle much easier when you know you have provisions for what you may encounter along the way. In recent years a lot of people purchased homes, but didn’t make or have provisions for the trip. They could handle smooth road easily enough, that was all they were equipped for. Everything had to go according to plan (if there was a plan). More likely everything had to be perfect to stay on the road.
Things aren’t perfect.
We all know this, but sometimes we want to ignore the imperfections we live with in ourselves, our friends our economy and country.
But the imperfections encountered on the road to home ownership can be more devastating than others. The purchase of a home is for most, the most expensive purchase people will make in their life. Yet, it is often one in which the least provision is made. Don’t get caught unprepared on the road to home ownership. Don’t get sidetracked and find yourself in a ditch. Be prepared for the journey and the spotting of vultures in the road ahead won’t bother you. When you are prepared for the vultures, you can drive right by, wave or take their picture; you know they aren’t there for you.
