Indianapolis Homes and Neighborhoods

Tree Lines Streets of Indianapolis

The history books claim, at one time the State of Indiana was 90% forested land. While highways have been paved and cities stand where there were once forests, there is not a lack of trees and densely wooded areas within the metro area. The city of Indianapolis is an urban forest and “Tree City” as designated by the Arbor Day Foundation. There are several cities and towns within Metro Indianapolis designated as such; Avon, Carmel, Fishers, Fortville, Noblesville and Zionsville.

In the city of Indianapolis and many of the smaller downtown areas, the streets are tree lined, creating a canopy of beautiful green and blanketing the neighborhood with shade.

Indianapolis Homes on Wooded Lot

Wooded Lot in Indianapolis

In the early days of expansion of homes in the suburbs of Indianapolis, there were less production builders and many neighborhoods were custom built. The builders took great care to preserve the land and trees, clearing only what was needed. Even today, these older custom neighborhoods are in high demand. There are also new home communities throughout the suburbs where the trees remain and you can expect to pay a premium for the homes and lots in these neighborhoods.

Home on wooded lots are a popular choice for home buyers in Indianapolis. People seem to like the benefits of being surrounded by nature and watching the scenery change as the seasons do. I love seeing the first buds of green in the spring, wildflowers in the summer, the leaves changing to fall colors and even fresh fallen snow on bare branches. I have to admit, I love trees and green, but the whole wilderness aspect of living in the woods doesn’t excite me. I have a tree lined lot, which offers me privacy without the animals, raking leaves and trimming that comes with living on a lot with lots of trees. It’s a beautiful view to wake up to every morning.

Thanks Paula, did I mention I love Green?

Did you hear? “You are just the best possible ambassador for lush and green Indianapolis!”

I’ve heard that a couple of times today already. :)

You mean she didn’t photoshop those in? Now I’m really impressed.

  6. Gena Riede says:

Gotta love all that green. Nothing like canopy tree-lined streets…beautiful.

  7. LOL – Dave, you are too funny. I did write this just for you. I know how miserably brown everything gets in Tucson this time of year.

No photoshop here! We have so many trees, it’s difficult to get pictures of homes in some neighborhoods and wooded lots are most beautiful.
