When It doesn’t feel right
When it doesn’t feel right the best advise is:
- Walk in
- Quick Look
- Move On
There are some homes you know the second the front door opens it isn’t the house you want to make your home. You have a lot of properties to look at during the course of your search. You should not indulge in the luxury of “What would I do with this house to make it a home” if it isn’t going to make the final cut.
Do yourself and everyone else a favor and check it off the list and move on as fast as you can.
This keeps a property that will never make the final cut from getting mixed in with the ones that will.
This makes the process of house hunting move along much smoother. You will benefit greatly from this approach when buying a home, in any kind of market.
The Story behind the Picture
There are a few circumstances where “If it doesn’t Feel Right Move On” will be trumped and the picture above is one example. Earlier this week we were Phoenix. Barbara was enrolled in a two day class for her GRI designation. She made the reservations for us online based on the online description of the amenities and accommodations.
When we got there, it was “Scary Ville”. Talk about puffing. The room we were given was nothing like the online description. We got there late and if we were to leave we would still have to pay for the room for the night. (Here is where the trump card comes in: “When money is already spent you sometimes live with it when it doesn’t feel right.”)
We were making the best of it and getting ready to get some sleep when suddenly Barbara disappears around the corner and is doing her best to slide a big heavy couch down the hall to the door of our room. I started laughing and helped her with her “peace of mind” security. Next it was moved the big chair up against the door to the adjoining room and put the lamp in front of the chair as some kind of primitive early warning devise should someone manage to get past the couch and chair.
The next morning we awoke and all was fine. I’m really glad there wasn’t a fire drill that night. : )
