Update: Cheesecake Factory to Open February 4, 2010
If you have been holding off moving to Tucson because there is no Cheesecake Factory then it is time to pack your bags and pick out a house. (How’s that for a Real Estate pitch to a great restaurant.) I hope you are all smiling.
We drove by the Tucson Mall yesterday on your way home from the east side of Tucson. It was a little detour but I wanted to see the New Cheesecake Factory going up with my own eyes.
The Tucson Mall at 4500 N Oracle Rd has had a tough a year as any place of business. But it is making great progress on renovations and the new entrance going up looks fantastic.
I have lived a sheltered life and never heard of Cheesecake Factory till one day we found ourselves in Phoenix for my birthday and the special night started with dinner at the Cheesecake Factory. After that there was no going back to the country for this country boy. (I’m kidding, the food is great but not that good, well almost)
I’ve heard people asking why there was no Cheesecake factory in Tucson. For 10 years that question has been on the minds of many Tucsonans especially when they are driving up I-10 braving traffic to eat at a Cheesecake Factory.
One thing about this photo of the Cheesecake Factory under construction. Because of the position of the sun I couldn’t get shot of the front without pointing the camera right into the sun itself. I chose to take it from this angle. Even from the back this place looks great.
The wait is almost over. Cheesecake Factory is finally coming to Tucson.

I was having a conversation with a friend about the Cheesecake Factory just yesterday. Personally, I’m not that fond of the CF but whatever; I think they’re overrated and over priced. Anyway, a call to the Tucson Mall management said they don’t know when the CF was coming, they have no date. Then I emailed corporate CF and their lips are sealed too. They did say it was coming but so far they have not decided when to open. It’s been coming for over a year now. March is right around the corner. People start fleeing Tucson in May. I bet it won’t open until August when school starts up. No restaurant with any financial sense opens up during the summer.
Karyn Zoldan’s last blog post..Noshing Tucson: Coming Soon: Skybox
@Karyn Zoldan – Thanks for the information. I don’t eat cheesecake. I do like the calamari and the lemon drop martinis are good. We usually get a salmon plate and split it.
As to when they open, LOL it looks like they are a ways from opening right now. So fall is a pretty good guess. If they do open in the summer, those of us staying in Tucson for the summer should find it easy to get a table.
When one cannot get an answer to a simple question one must realize there may be a problem … honest business practice dictates customer questions should be answered in a truthful manner … a quick check of both websites show no mention of this resturaunt …
Phil,
The Arizona Daily Star this morning ran a short piece on REI not coming as soon as they thought to the Tucson Mall. It seems the economy has caused many businesses to have to put on hold plans to open new locations. The was said about CF in today’s article. For customer relations it would be best to at least respond to inquiries and say “The opening date is yet to be determined” which at this point I think would be an honest answer. The building is going up and it is going to be a Cheesecake Factory. But when it will open does appear to be YTD.
I just want to know when it will open. We are super stoked on the CF to our Tucson restaraunts!! I was just in Chandler for the day and I had to eat at the Cheesecake Factory, so it definately will be up there in restaraunts that I go to.
I love their new addtion of the snack plates, alot of food for very little money and oh so tasty. I love the artichoke plate and the zuccini plate. If I wasn’t craving the Chicken Salad sandwich and a piece of the Caramal Pecan Turtle Cheesecake, then I would have wanted to try more of the snack plates.
I feel there prices are reasonable, compared to other restaraunts. I mean it definately is more than Wendy’s or Jimmy John’s or Jason’s Deli, type places, but same as BJ’s Brewhouse, Old Chicago, and Fox and Hound.
I’ve never had a bad experience at the Cheesecake Factory. ONe time we got a Caesar salad that was too anchovie tasting and they fixed something else with no addtional charge. Another time my nephew didn’t like his cheesecake and they were going to exchange it for another one. Another time they got our food out quicker than the appetizers and they comped the appetizers. They are a truly amazing restaraunt!
I’m already craving their food and I was just there on Saturday.
I want to know when it opens so I can work there! please let me know if you hear anything…

I’ve had so many great experiences here and can’t wait until it opens!

Paul,
There are a lot of people interested in this opening date. As soon as I hear anything it will be posted here. And I’m sure any reader who comes here will post new information as soon as they have it.
I have not seen any info listed here for a month, so for the new readers; I drove by again today. As I thought before, it simply looks like construction has simply halted. It’s like seeing Willy Wonka’s Factory from the gates… and not being able to go in. I fully agree with the other comments; The Cheescake Factory should respond with “opening for this location has yet to be determined.” A simple response might put some eager customers at ease. I feel a little lame being so eager, but c’mon it’s great food and I have a huge sweet tooth!
I called cheesecake factory corporate. They said if you go to the cheesecake factory web-site to “locations” you’ll go to AZ. (this is where it gets a bit tricky.)
If you look to the LEFT of the screen drag the sidebar to the very bottom, where it says “Coming Soon”. They post new locations 2 months prior to them opening. So….they said if it’s not listed there, then it’s still more than 2 months from opening their doors.
Hope that helps!
They ran out of money and couldn’t finish the parking lot. So the building is stopped for now. Who knows when they will finish. Everything inside is complete though.
N,
The question is “Who is They”? Cheesecake Factory, I doubt they were paying for the parking lot in the first place. The Mall? Or is it just a nasty roomer being spread by Peter Piper Pizza not wanting the competition.
Dave
It needs to open soon. Peter Piper is one of the nastiest pizza places I’ve been to. Go Cheesecake!
Does anyone know when people may start applying at the Cheesecake Factory? If so, where do we do it?
Liat,
The best source for this information is to use the contact form on the cheesecake factory website.

I ´ve asked Cheesecake Factory more than once this year when will the restaurant be open and their answer is always the SAME: “We will post Tucson as a New location on our web page 2 months prior to the opening.
As of today, Tucson is not listed under CF locations. This means they are not opening in the next 2 months.
Impressively Slow!
Sometime in the middle of November is what Mall Managment had to say. As far as the parking lot goes, Cheesecake Factory is fronting the bill for it. They werent supposed to open till January 2010 with the rest of the malls renevations but bankrupcy hit and the mall postponed construction. Its back on now but they had no intention of letting CF open on time. They made a deal and as long as CF paid for the new parking lot they could open early.
does anyone have any information as to job opportunity with the cheesecake factory
Elie,
You best bet is to inquire at the Cheesecake Factory Corporate Website.
cant wait for cheesecake factory to open!
The delayed opening of such a highly anticipated (and successful) brand name eatery is somehow typical of the painfully slow pace of growth here in Tucson. How hard is it to attract civilized dining and shopping options in a place that has had so much housing growth in the last five years? Enjoy CCF, Tucson! We’re tired of waiting for things like CCF, Passages of Tucson, etc, we are bailing on Tucson ASAP.
Just went to their web-site & it says Tucson will be opening in FEBRUARY 2010.
Here’s the link if you want to check it out.

Yes CF fan. I posted an update earlier on the open date with the link to the Star article.
We don’t have long to wait now.
People really return to eat the pig slop they call food?? Cheesecake factory is AWEFULL !!!!
Ate at the new Cheesecake Factory in Tucson. Totally unimpressed. Poor beer selection and they were out of the two better beers on the list. $8 for 8 ounces of wine, dirty beer glass, totally overpriced food, mediocre in taste and portions. And, I’m a fan of the Cheesecake Factory but I’ll never go back to the Tucson location.
alan,
I’m sorry to hear this, from both you and Anne. I haven’t been there yet. I’ve eaten at Cheesecake Factory in Phx on multiple occasions and always enjoyed the experience. I hope Cheesecake Factory Corporate is listening. We do deserve better there what I’m hearing here in Tucson.
Dave
Felicidades.
