It’s called Scrapping
That’s when someone STEALS your content and publishes it on their site in hopes of getting people to click on the ads on site.
Here is my post that was scrapped from this past week.
It can be a constant issue for sites like this one that produce regular (well, almost regular) content. It gets picked up by scrappers who want to aggregate the content in hopes of getting people to click on their ads.
In this case I’ve done what I usually do, Contact the site owner and let them know they are in copyright violation; ask them to stop scrapping our content and remove the content that is posted. In this case I also contacted the Registrar of the site and let them know the situation. I received an email response from Namecheap.com that a ticket was being opened and they would get back to me. That was last week, no word from either.
So the next step is to go public with the offender and hope they scrap this post and put it up on their site saying they are scrapping content, which is illegal and dishonest.
Here is one way of finding out who owns a web address and where it is registered.

So that’s about it for this post. Hope every ones weeks is off to a good start.
Everyone except the guy in Spain stealing our content. I hope his week sucks.

It seems the number of scraper sites are growing each day. I hope google does something about this.
In my case, I just found 2 sites scraping my full feed from feedburner so I am considering to disable full feeds. If they decide to scrape my content, at least the link to “read more” would lead to my site.
One more thing, I make sure that I have a working link to my site near the beginning of each post so scraper sites will actually become a linkback to my site, until I find them and give them a piece of my mind.
