Putting it in Perspective
What do you see? Is this picture upside down? Are you sure? Perspective, perception and a lack of information can lead to faulty conclusions.
At first glimpse this picture seems to be upside down. It is not. This is exactly how it was framed in the camera at the time it was taken.
I will grant you it even fooled the software in the camera. It would seem software can only do what designers program it to do based on a series of “assumptions”.
So it isn’t only humans that can draw faulty conclusions, software can also be programmed to produce faulty results based on a programmer faulty perceptions.
More Information Can Lead to Better Conclusions
I say “Can Lead” because sometimes presuppositions and personal bias can negate valid data. However, when a person doesn’t feel like they have a vested interest one way or another, or they set aside their bias and presuppositions they can come to more accurate conclusions.
Perspective and More Data
I was at a home inspection and there were a lot of brittlebush in full bloom. It was early in the day and I wasn’t worried about rattlesnakes. (I checked), (I checked real good). It was a perfect blue sky and the best background I could find for the bright yellow flowers with the sun hitting the petals. I knew the light would be passing right through those yellow petals so I got down on the ground crawled up under the bush and pointed my camera straight up at the flowers and the sky. From that location the bush was over my head and at the top of the photo. It appeared to be upside down, but it was actually right side up. The only thing unusual was the photographer holding the camera looking up while lying on his back.
Now you have more data about how and when this image was taken. Now with the additional information about the image you can make more accurate observations about what you see, or what you think you see.
Right now there is a lot of perception and statistical mis-information about what is going on in our economy and the Tucson Real Estate Market.
September sales were the higher than last month and last September as well. Real Estate transactions in the entire country in September were up considerably and the West showed particular strength in sales. The average and median sales prices have come down considerably during the year. This is a good thing for the market.
This coming week our discusion of Affordability and the Tucson real estate market will take us all on a trip down memory lane. Perpective, observations and insights based on information beyond presuppositions, basic observation and assumptions.
